Project Overview

During my time as Creative Technology Director at Pixel Artworks, I was Tech Lead for a project Lenovo commissioned through Global, who partnered with Pixel Artworks to create an immersive installation that would bridge the gap between technology and the human body. Bio Aura was conceived as a real-time generative experience, a living system that reads biometric signals from attending influencers and translates them into personalised auras and soundscapes. The result was a deeply personal brand moment that positioned Lenovo at the intersection of wellness, data, and design.

The Challenge

The brief demanded bespoke hardware and software development, in addition to interactive experience development and satellite links to transmit aura data from the boat on which the party was held, to the control tower handling London Eye lighting and County Hall projection, all while the boat was travelling up the Thames and operating reliably in a high-footfall event environment. Biometric data including heart rate, galvanic skin response, and proximity sensing needed to be captured, processed, and visualised in real time with low latency. The installation also had to feel premium, intuitive, and brand-aligned, without requiring any user instruction.

The Solution

We developed a bespoke sensor to digital aura pipeline using microcontroller biosensors feeding into a custom real-time TouchDesigner project, engaged with through the Lenovo Aura laptop. Each visitor's unique biometric signature produced visuals and audio that were never repeated. The outputs from the experience were a digital takeaway for each guest, a visual and audio aura unique to them, projected onto County Hall as a combined sound and video experience featuring the guest's name, while simultaneously illuminating the London Eye with the aura's colours and patterns lighting up the London skyline.
