During my time as Creative Technology Director for Pixel Artworks I was Tech Lead for this 3 floor interactive and immersive installation for the new Autotrader HQ in Manchester. The various installations needed to be robust, require minimal maintenance, operate 24/7 without fail, and integrate seamlessly with existing architectural constraints while still delivering a high-impact visual spectacle. This case study showcases how I led technical teams and collaborated across stakeholders including clients and their internal departments as well as building and fit out contractors to drive this collaborative work with Autotrader.

The installation brief was to add lasting impact and the wow factor to a future facing data organisation. To achieve this there were client facing consultations, design development phases and data artwork discovery sessions with the IT team to bridge their extensive live data streams with Pixel Artworks Creative Direction.

The final delivered installations were extensive and varied across multiple floors. On the ground floor reception, a data artwork piece draws live from Autotrader's own API, transforming real-time data into a dynamic visual experience that changes throughout the day. Using car suspended from the reception ceiling, a mobile accessible AR wraps the hung cars in a layered digital narrative, one that can be updated and changed over time. On the upper floors, multiple LED digital signage walls sit alongside a sculptural curved LED feature display and a video content driven light installation, together forming an immersive environment. An AI mirror wall completes the space, generating a live, personalised alternative reality for each viewer, responding to both their written prompts and physical movements. On the uppermost floor, Autotrader's APIs drive a series of ceiling-mounted and plinth-integrated LED ticker displays, featuring a continuous, data feed.
